Early Life and Education

Mal. Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada was born in Gusau on the 12th day of November, 1972 in the present day Zamfara state of Nigeria. He completed his elementary school in Gummi, and further enrolled into Federal Government College Sokoto between 1985 and 1991. He then proceeded to prestigious Usman Danfodio University Sokoto where he obtained his first degree in Political Science in 1996 and thereafter the famous Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and also graduated with Masters of Science Degree in Public Administration in 2008 with top honours.

His Career

Mal. Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada started his career after the compulsory National Youth Service Corp as the Personal Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State Transport from 1999 to 2001, then later Personal/Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State Education from 2001 to 2003. In the year 2003-2005 Nakwada had a brief stint with the National Maritime Authority, Lagos now NIMASA, as a Principal Admin Officer, before later joining the private sector.

After serving in the private sector for over 5 years as the Manager for V-Mobile, Celtel, Zain & Airtel Telecoms from 2005 to 2010, Abubakar Nakwada served as a Special Assistant to State Minister of Health Federal Ministry of Health 2010-2011. Following the expiration of the Minister’s tenure, he became the General Manager of Business Development GSCL Consulting from Aug 2011 to 2013.

In 2014 Abubakar M. Nakwada re-joined the public sector, the National Lottery Trust Fund as a Chief Monitoring Officer SGL 14 and subsequently rose through the ranks to the Director Operations in 2022. He developed a team of highly motivated staff that are key to several successes. Serving as Chair and Member of several standing and ad-hoc committees, notably; Anti-Corruption & Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offenses Commission (ICPC) leading his team to a remarkable feat of the second-best rated agency and fourth best MDA in Nigeria in the Y-2020 as well as the best compliant MDA in Nigeria in 2022. He was Head; Bureau for Public Service Reforms (BPSR) Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) deployment exercise for the MDA, Head; Task-Force on the Recovery of unremitted government lottery and gaming revenues, Head; Central Monitoring System (CMS) and Alternate Revenue Assurance Monitoring System in view of the need to improve the revenue profile of the National Lottery Trust Fund. He was the Secretary of Annual Reports and Accounts Committee, as well as the sole Representative in the Central Delivery Coordinating Unit (CDCU) of the six Ministerial Deliverables of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs anchored by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and the list goes on.

With this multifaceted experience, in business development, private and public service, core leadership, etc. On the 29th May 2023, Mal. Abubakar M. Nakwada was therefore appointed as the Secretary to the State Government by His Excellency Dr. Dauda Lawal, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, since then he has been the driver of reforms and custodian of government policies and programmes towards achieving the six (6) Priority areas of the Rescue Agenda of His Excellency, Dr, Dauda Lawal’s led administration, namely; Security, Education, Agriculture, Economic-Growth, Healthcare and Infrastructure development.
